Aaron Ekblad (@EK5Colts) gets his first #NHL point in his first game as a Panther.

Last night, Barrie Colt alumni Aaron Ekblad played in his first regular season game with the Florida Panthers.

Ekblad got the second assist on Jonathan Huberdeau's game tying goal mid way through the second period against the Tampa Bay Lightning last night.

Ekblad's first NHL point.
Was it the most beautiful first point in the world? No... No doubt that Ekblad will never forget this moment in his career. I am willing to assume that as years pass he will likely remember it to be a prettier play than it was. Hell, my first goal playing hockey as a child was an end to end play and I deeked out the entire opposing team! (In reality a teammate shot the puck, it hit my leg and went in...)

Though Ekblad got his first point, the Panthers ended up losing the game in overtime.

The first round draft pick overall had a decent game. Getting an assist, 2 shots on goal and he blocked 2 shots (miss that Colts fans?) He finished the game with 19:05 time on ice and 1:22 of power play time.

It seems like the Panthers have confidence in the first pick and if he keeps up this effort there is no doubt he will grow and become a top blue liner for a team that REALLY NEEDS HIM!

In an interview with A Very Barrie Colts, Aaron Ekblad had to say this about his NHL debut.

Ekblad and the Panthers next game is this Saturday when they host the New Jersey Devils.
